Sounds crazy but it’s not….since we’ve gotten our PS3 we’ve noticed a small design flaw. While the controller has built in rechargeable batteries, it can only be charged while the PS3 is actually on. Which basically leaves you tethered to a two foot cable while trying to play. I’m really shocked it doesn’t just trickle charge or something while the PS3 is in standby mode.
So here’s the good news, turns out that the charging cable is a pretty standard USB one (our remote and mp3 players even use the same one) and basically you can plug it into any USB port you can find. Heck we could even charge it using the Xbox if we wanted to (although I suspect it would burst into flames or something evil). So since we can never turn off our Dish DVR, and there was a little lonely ol’ port back there I hooked it up to it. Voila, no more dead batteries and we don’t have to play five inches from the big screen.

Happy Holidays....from Nibbler
Merry Christmas from our cat, Nibbler.
Hallmark Rockin' Rover of death!!!!
Last christmas our neighbors gave us this , and he seemed to like it back then. This year when we unpacked the christmas stuff however he didn’t seem to like it quite as much:
And part 2….because we are evil
I told you I was hardcore
A lot of people have said that the Wii doesn’t have any real games out for it, and they’d probably be mostly right. One exception to this rule though is No More Heros, a mix of chop socky and insanity, it is a glaring example of adult video games. I honestly think that had this game been released on the Xbox or PS3 there would be a lot more controversy about it, but I temper that with the fact that I was able to pick it up at Target on clearance. Any way, it’s a crazy game that really should get more attention by anyone looking for something more exciting than Super Mario Bros.
On top of that I’ve also been playing Far Cry 2 (came with the PS3 bundle) and while I took a while to warm up to the game I still am left with one nagging question. Why does everyone in Africa want to kill me??? I can’t drive by a car, camp, or even a freaking Zebra without them wanting to attack me in some way. Even at night when they shouldn’t be able to tell who I am. It’s like a constant deathmatch just trying to get from one end of the (huge) map to the other. Of course with all that being said, the game is beautiful and really engrossing. I wish I had been able to play it on the Xbox so I could get achievements, but considering mine has been in TX for a while getting repaired that would have been kind of impossible.
Speaking of repair, I got an email friday saying that the Xbox was on its way back to us. That would make this total experience roughly about two weeks, which sucks but isn’t the worst scenario. Although I’m lucky I not only had two other consoles (one of which we bought the day the xbox died) but also some other games I wanted to finish playing. I still find it funny that Microsoft basically pushed me into the arms of Sony because of the RRoD. Of course I like to think of it as a blu ray player that also plays games, but time will tell. As long as my Xbox doesn’t bork on me again I think I’d rather keep building my achievement score but who knows how that will work out.
The shapes of me and things
I’ll never understand how a person can take almost three weeks of vacation and still almost not get anything done. Spent most of the time playing with the kids and finishing up my school work (final was due by 12/5).
Our Xbox is still off being repaired, so I’ve been playing the PS3 pretty much lately. The deal we got came with a copy of Far Cry 2, so I’ve been getting the hang of it more and more. It really is a different feel than the xbox…and while I miss my xbox, the PS3 sure is a lot quieter to play. Although I have to admit I was shocked at the size of it, it’s almost as big (if not bigger) than the xbox is.
Funny thing is when we got the PS3 I spent about three hours rewiring the television, so now the PS3 is hooked up via HDMI to our TV. Perfect for watching blu-ray movies hopefully some day here when we actually find enough time to sit down and watch a full movie. Either way I’m happy to actually use that input since everything else only had component cables.
Here’s a video of Connor and Amelia playing that Jen took the other day:
How things go.....
Monday: Xbox 360 dies of RRod
Tuesday: Wife’s birthday
Wednesday: Play with kids, pickup up grandma from airport
Thursday: Brand new Playstation 3 arrives from Dell thanks to a spankin’ deal
Friday: Play FarCry 2….die multiple times
And that is my official week….
Xbox withdrawls
I had to mention this because it was kind of funny. When Jen dropped off the xbox yesterday at the UPS store (for its return to MS for repair) the clerk behind the counter recognized the ship to address immediately. He then started to go on and on about how they see like two or three of these a day, and that people usually end up doing this dance like two or three more times.
Guess we’re lucky that we got two full years out of it :/
I knew this was going to happen someday...
Never did hear back from Skil
When I went out into the garage this morning to put the finishing touches on some shelves I was greeted to a completely dead cordless drill battery, which of course reminded me that I never did hear back from Skil despite their claims “I have forwarded your comments for review and consideration.”
So I guess that I’m just not worth keeping as a customer because I don’t believe I should have to replace my battery packs every 3 years (never mind one of them crapped out after one year, but I limped along on the other one).
