I was giving Nibbler one of his 50 medicines this morning when he choked on some of the liquid antibiotic and spit it all in my face.
That stuff tastes horrible, horrible like that stuff they put on your fingers to stop you from biting them.
More baby stuff arrived yesterday, Jen spotted a sale online at Target.com and we bought a play pen for the kid:

- I’ve never seen this video before, it’s called . It’s like a stop motion of makeup application, to editing, to a billboard (obviously CG).
- And then there’s this parody of it called . Which in all honesty is quite well done.
- Did you know they make Margarita flavored Jell-O now? We saw it in the store and had to buy some for my sister, it was just to funny not to. Kind of reminds me of candy cigarettes from when I was a kid. Wonder how long it will last.

So we’ve had Farscape: Season 1 Disk 4 sitting in our Netflix queue for almost two months now.
It’s kind of hard to watch a series out of sequence, so we’ve been waiting….and waiting….and waiting for them to ship it, but every time they keep skipping it saying “very long wait”. Of course disk 5, 6, and so on are available now…but that elusive disk 4 always seems to escape our grasp. And it’s kinda pissing us off.
No problem right? we’ll just drop them an email, I mean after all they should be web savvy, technologists that embrace the ease and simplicity of online life. The answer I’m afraid is NOPE. When you go to Netflix and click on Help, nothing obvious comes up. If you click on “contact us” nothing obvious applies, even when you select your account your driven to a page with links to online tools but nothing to address a queue that refuses to actually give you what you want in a reasonable amount of time.
It turns out, in order to get to the magical page with links to different email web forms you need to search the help for “customer service” (email also works) and then select How do I contact customer service.
Really, did it have to be that hard? It was almost easier for me to cancel AOL than find the right stupid place to wonder why it takes 2 months to rent a DVD.

So we picked up Nibber last night from the Vet, he was the final cat to get his teeth cleaned and ears looked at.
Who would expect that cat’s as pampered as they are, would have so many damn problems. Heck, Nibblers vet bill cost as much as Moxie and Gizmo combined. Heck, he has 4 medicines alone to take…pills, gels, drops…it’s crazy.

When I moved into my apartment many years ago I was given a Bunn coffee maker.

A few years after that when Jen moved in, my mom’s coffee maker broke so I gave her mine and we used Jen’s. Everyone was happy. After our mother died, my sister took it and had been using it until recently when she told me it was broken. I asked what was wrong and she said it was leaking on the sides and the coffee just didn’t taste good. Of course the most likely reason for that was none of us had ever bothered to clean it.
Ever wonder what that would look like? Your in luck cause I’m trying to repair it (the gaskets were shot, which is why it was leaking) so I had to take it apart. Now this model sports a water retention pot, which basically means you get instant coffee because it always has a reservoir ready full of warm/hot water.

Yeah, I’m currently giving it a CLR bath, and I’m probably gonna give white vinegar a shot next since the CLR got it’s butt kicked. The nice part is that when I called in to deal with the recall issue with this model they were really nice and are sending me a new gasket kit for free. So I’m hoping by the time I’m done all will be well and it’ll be refurbed like brand new.
So the lesson here….clean your coffee maker regularly.

The internet is a vast and wonderful place, with some dark corners and others filled with so much cute it can make a grown war vet vomit.

This weekend was somewhat productive, we ordered a glider for Jen for the babies room so she can hold the kid and rock him. We also found some great deals on baby cages online:

*As for the site, you’ll see that I made some changes. Modified the SNAP script a bit to make it more custom to my site, so now it’s not just on links, but rather on the little icon’s to the right of them. Hopefully it will make it more user friendly and avoid accidental triggers. I also took off that stupid cluster map thing, all you could see was a mass of red dots, no where near as useful as I thought it would be for the level of traffic I generate.

Whomever did was totally lying.
We just dropped the $400+ on them at the vet’s getting Moxie and Gizmo‘s teeth cleaned. So I mean, here’s the thing….now I brush them once a week (to hopefully keep down hairballs), have to clip their nails once a week, change the 3 litter pans every other day, clean the water fountain once a week, and to top it off we now have to brush their teeth every other day.
It’s insane. I could quit my job and spend my whole day just taking care of them. Which begs the question, who actually does all this stuff? Does anybody think people are going to brush their cat’s teeth daily? It’s just crazy because growing up I was always lead to believe that cats were pretty much like houseplants, except they pooped more and shed. Of course I don’t want them to get like Julie where we had to have her get 5 teeth pulled because all she did was eat soft food/human food. I mean, would you want to be 10 years old and have a permanent tooth ache because nobody cared enough? Just another stupid thing I never thought about, like how declawing your cats is traumatizing to them.
Moving on, almost a year ago I bought an Netgear SC101 from Circuit City w/ a rebate. Up until last week I was actually pretty happy with it. I had purchased two identical 250gb hard drives and put them in there as a mirror, thinking that I was double safe with my data (cheap raid) and everything was going to be great. I even sold it to Jen as a data backup, set up everything and patted myself on the back for being proactive in data backup.
Here’s the thing, it sucks. It doesn’t just suck, I mean it truly 100% without doubt is a useless piece of shit. Actually I take that back, if I took a crap, shoved an Ethernet cable into it and hooked that up to my network it would probably be of more use than the SC101. Heck add a blue LED and it would probably sell like hotcakes……well…stinky hot cakes.
Basically, one day it just vanished from the network. After many power cycles and resets I was able to see it again but magically both the hard drives showed 0% free. And here’s the kicker, not only can I not access it or the data on it, you can’t hook up the drives in it to a windows computer. They don’t use FAT or NTFS file systems….they use some proprietary one that can’t be accessed. Let me translate that for you, my data is lost. Almost 100% irretrieveable unless you jump through some incredible crazy hoops that no home user could ever do and didn’t even work for me. So let’s recap:
- All data vanished, no error messages or warnings
- Can’t retrieve data unless you use an SC101 to read it, but you can’t because it doesn’t see it anymore
- Can’t fix it using the documentation
- Using a mirror does nothing to offer data redundancy, in fact it’s useless
Right now I’m trying to reformat the disks I had in it, so I can attempt to set it up again WITHOUT mirroring, one of them is taking forever to format though so I suspect it went bad. But basically all I’m going to do is wait until I can pickup a SimpleShare NAS for $85 bucks and replace this useless toaster.
Oh and for the record, I’m not alone.
